CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Rob walks into Lifebreath excited about his meeting with Dalton on the details of their secret wedding ceremony. “Hey, there buddy, Good Morning!” He greets with a huge grin.

Dalton, however, receives this ebullient welcome with a wary look. “So this what marriage does to you, huh? Perhaps I did come out with the better deal, after all.”

Rob laughs heartily and slaps him on the back. “Hmm…I don’t think so my friend, but we’ll never know now, will we?”

Dalton chuckles, shaking his head. “No, I guess we won’t. Anyway, let’s go over the plans for your big day—well, your second big day. Not that I really have to ask…but how are things going so far?”

Rob beams with joy. “Wow man, this is what every marriage should be like. It’s great! Steph and I flow so easily that everything just feels natural between us. I’m really enjoying it.”

Dalton is thoroughly pleased. “I am so glad you two did this. It’s clear to see that you were made for each other. Didn’t I tell you to wait it out, and if it was meant to be, you would know?”

Rob nods in awe. “Man, you were so right—as usual. I tell you, you’ve got some serious connections up there.”

Dalton graciously smiles and changes the subject. “So, what’s the order of events here?”

Rob opens up his portfolio and pulls out some papers. “This is what Steph and I came up with: The party will start at six o’clock, so we’ll have the food set out buffet style to allow people arriving at that time to begin eating immediately as well as give time for those coming a little later not to miss anything. We’re going to have Luke from Saturday Sports Night serve the drinks. He occasionally moonlights as a bartender, so this will help him make some extra cash in tips and keep the kids from trying to sneak into the alcohol. We’ll also have music playing from the system inside. I’ve already gotten some song requests from the kids and am in the process of making up a playlist. Steph doesn’t want to come out until the ceremony, but I’ll be around to greet everyone and make sure they’re comfortable, etc. Then at 6:45 I’m going to make an announcement that we have a special presentation from the kids.”

Rob laughs conspiratorially. “They’re in the ceremony and don’t even know it. I’ve asked them to either write or choose a piece to read of what love and/or unity means to them, and they’ve got some good stuff so far. So, that will go until 7:00 or when the last presentation is over, at which point you’ll make the announcement of one last presentation by me. Stephanie will be standing by inside and that will be her signal to start ‘The Bridal Chorus’ and walk out to where I’ll already be on the platform waiting for her. Next, you’ll perform the ceremony where we will say our prepared vows, exchange rings and—voilà! Everyone will be shocked, amazed, and I hope pleased.
